President’s Message 10-15-19

Happy October Highland Park!

Progress can seem slow at times but we must persevere! At our October 2019 HHPNC Regular Board Meeting we were able to support the Highland Park Film Festival which had an amazing turnout and even brought Danny Trejo into our backyard! Even local Franklin high schoolers had featured films.

We voted to support the upcoming Dia de Los Muertos/Otono Festival presented by Ave 50 Studios, set to be on November 1, 2019 at Culebra Park located at 240 S. Ave 57 Los Angeles, CA 90042 from 4-7pm.

Some of you may be aware of Shower of Hope, a non-profit that operates on Saturdays right here in Highland Park, thanks to Recycled Resources and All Saints Church. We were able to provide them with a grant to continue operating here in Highland Park and offering showers to our Homeless Community in need.

We are submitting Letters of Support for the repeal of an approved development that will harm our furry friends and CF 14-0268-S16 which will assist in mitigating the misuse of the Ellis Act in our community. We are also proudly supporting CF 19-0002-S157 Medicare for All.

Our Land Use Committee is currently working on guidelines for future alcohol licenses and requests for developments in our neighborhood. Please attend their meetings to give your input! Their meetings are held the 3rd Tuesday of every month at the Highland Park Senior Center located at 6152 N. Figueroa St Los Angeles, CA 90042 from 7-9pm.

We currently have a Director-At-Large Position vacancy please feel free to apply here.  It will be voted on November 7, 2019 at the HHPNC Board Meeting at the Highland Park Senior Center located at 6152 N. Figueroa St. Los Angeles, CA 90042 from 7-9pm.

We recently collaborated with Arroyo Seco Neighborhood Council and had a great turnout for our Movie Night!

We continue to welcome the community to our board and committee meetings. We want to ensure that ALL of the voices in our neighborhood are heard!

Hope you can all attend some of the local upcoming events and Fall Festivals!
